When all was darkness and chaos ruled
You spoke Your light into this world
Your very Essence was creation’s foundation
Your love and Presence the core of creation

Your words clear borders between them fixed
The order of days, time and seasons

Seas, clouds and an atmosphere
Dry land, hills and mountains appeared
Your words terraforming this entire planet
To make a home for us to inhabit

Plant and flowers, trees and fruit
All at your command they grew
Providing shelter, providing food

Abraham and Sarah

Said we’re old and barren

We have no child

 And we will never have one

But God said, “That’s not true

Now You are My Children!”

And they had a son Isaac

Who fathered many nations

.

Identity, it matters

And We are God’s Sons

Made in Jesus’ image

For with Jesus we are One!

.

The Jews enslaved by Egypt

Thought by God they’d been abandoned

Slavery was their norm

They could see no other future

But God said, “That’s not true

For You are My Children!”

He sent Moses to lead them

To His Promised land’s freedom

.

Identity, it matters

And We are God’s Sons

Made in Jesus’ image

For with Jesus we are One!

.

David was a shepherd

The youngest of eight sons

Considered insignificant

By all human standards

But God said, “That’s not true

For he is My Child!”

God made David king

Over all Israel.

When Jesus was beginning

His ministry time

He was baptised by John

At the riverside

And God said, “I’m well pleased,

This is my Beloved Son!”

And those words kept Jesus safe

Through His time of temptation

The Samaritan woman

Lived from her shame

She would only get water 

At midday far from home

But Jesus called her out as His

Gave her His living water

She became an evangelist

Brought her whole town to her Saviour.

A madman in a graveyard

Worshipped Jesus one day

Though exiled by his village

For his madness and rage

But Jesus actions said, “Your mine!”

Sending the man’s demons away

And he became an evangelist

The whole town he saved.

Saul was a zealot

Fighting for God’s Law

Killing Christians was his aim

For he thought they were evil

But Jesus said to him

“Why do you persecute Me?”

And Saul became Paul

Taking Christ to the world

For with Jesus we are One!

When Peter and John

Were approached by a lame beggar

They had no money

To give to help his hunger

But they knew they were God’s Sons

For Jesus was their Saviour

So they healed his crippled legs

Released God’s Kingdom favour

.

For with Jesus we are One!

.

We live in a war zone

Though the battle’s already won

We must decide who we believe

Whose side we are on

Jesus says, “I have saved you

With myself I’ve made you One!

The old you died on the cross

Now you’re God’s Sons in my Kingdom!”

.

We can live from the old man

With all his sins and failures

Live in hopelessness

Where fear and shame stalk us

Or live from God’s Word

Who says “You are God’s Sons!

Love, joy, peace and righteousness

Will fill all your days!”

In his journeys abroad

To the promised land

You gave as his reward

Interpreting dreams

To become Israel’s saviour

From slavery to freedom

As she sheltered Your spies

She brought the Jews justice

I can feel so unworthy

To be called God’s child

But you tell me, “Don’t worry,

That you died on the cross

Live from your new life
