Your Words, O God, are more powerful
Than all the forces known to people
Your Words were the foundation and source
Of all that is in our universe!

When all was darkness and chaos ruled
You spoke Your light into this world
Your very Essence was creation’s foundation
Your love and Presence the core of creation

Into the light and dark then mixed
Your words clear borders between them fixed
The order of days, time and seasons
This universe’s bodies moving in rhythms

Seas, clouds and an atmosphere
Dry land, hills and mountains appeared
Your words terraforming this entire planet
To make a home for us to inhabit

Plant and flowers, trees and fruit
All at your command they grew
Providing shelter, providing food
A garden of beauty, a garden of good

Fish and creatures formed in the seas
Birds flew through the air with daring and ease
And so many animals on the earth appeared
As your words their creation empowered

Then from the ground You created humanity
Man and woman in perfect unity
Made in Your image to be just like You
In fruitfulness this earth to co-rule

The complexity, beauty and variety
Of the forces and structures around us we see
Are a daily testament to Your word’s power
To bring into being Your heart’s desire

And give You all Glory for all You have made
The greatest artist and engineer
