Matthew 9:23-24 Meditation

“When Jesus finally entered the home of the Jewish leader, he saw a noisy crowd of mourners, wailing and playing a funeral dirge on their flutes. He told them, “You must leave, for the little girl is not dead; she’s only asleep.” Then everyone began to ridicule him.” Matthew 9:23-24 TPT

Though the Jewish leader
Acted in faith
The crowd at his home
Was in quite another place
So when Jesus pronounced
That the girl was just sleeping
The crowd laughed in unbelief
And ridiculed him

Jesus Your word
Is always true
You are our salvation
Our true life is in You

Maybe some in the crowd
Had a vested interest
In the girl remaining dead
For death and mourning was their business
Certainly their faith
Was in their own expertise
For Jesus words had no impact
On what they thought they could see

Jesus Your word
Is always true
You are our salvation
Our true life is in You

Some think that doubt
Is the right place to start from
Logic and reason
Is what they put their faith in
What they can touch and see now
Limits their understanding
And when Jesus contradicts them
They seek to ridicule him

Jesus Your word
Is always true
You are our salvation
Our true life is in You

Thankfully the girls father
Had left this crowd of unbelievers
Sought out Jesus face
And knelt in faith at his feet
And because of his request
Jesus came to his daughter
Dismissed the crowd of mourners
Ignored the doubters and scoffers

Jesus Your word
Is always true
You are our salvation
Our true life is in You

Death is not the final word
In Your kingdom
Death is not the final word
In Your presence
For You bring life and health
It is the essence of Your being
That’s why faith in You
Is the beginning of wisdom

Jesus Your word
Is always true
You are our salvation
Our true life is in You
