Once I was just human

Bound simply to this earth

Born of my human parents

And destined to return to dirt

But You lifted me up

As You rose from the grave

Gave me Your eternal life

Most powerful to save

Once I was broken

A heart hardened by sin

I could not love

Could not trust again

But You lifted me up

As You rose from the grave

Gave me a new heart

To love Your way

Once my spirit was broken

Tattered and torn

Unable to know God

For the darkness I bore

But You lifted me up

As You rose from the grave

Gave me a new spirit

Joined to Yours now, today

Once I was so powerless

Tired and afraid

Striving to protect myself

Control my world each day

But You lifted me up

As You rose from the grave

Made me one with You

So I could live Your way

I’m no longer bound to earth

Broken hearted, spirit battered
