“One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and started out. As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap. But soon a fierce storm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water, and they were in real danger. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm. Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?” The disciples were terrified and amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!”” Luke 8:22-25 NLT
“For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ,
For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you … too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.” Colossians 1:19, 27 NLT
Jesus took His disciples
On an interesting journey
Across a large lake
In a boat for that many
As they sailed across
He lay down for a nap
Jesus had no worries
To keep Him awake
For Jesus knew
That He had a destiny
And nothing would stop God
From making it be
He knew He could rest
In God’s loving hands
That journey was not
The end of God’s plans
Jesus also knew
That God could be trusted
To keep His word
Once it was established
So He could rest
Unconcerned as He travelled
With God as protector
Nothing Him troubled
Jesus also could rest
In His own identity
As God’s beloved Son
With God’s Spirit in Him
The hands that made stars
Powerful words that created
We’re living in Him
To provide what He needed
This same Jesus
Who could rest anywhere
Is living in us
With His loving care
We can rest in His faith
Rest in His Presence
For His Spirit seals us
Into His essence
For in Jesus we know
We have a destiny
And nothing will stop God
From making it be
We know we can rest
In God’s loving hands
Today’s journey is not
The end of God’s plans
With Jesus faith we know
That God can be trusted
To keep His word
Now it is established
So we can rest
Unconcerned as we travel
With God as protector
Nothing can us trouble
We can also rest living
In Jesus’ identity
Making us God’s beloved Sons
His Spirit in us eternally
The hands that made stars
Powerful words that created
Are living in us
To provide what is need
A very fierce storm
Came down the lake
Water filling the boat
Making it unsafe
The disciples were worried
They started to panic
No doubt they knew
Storms could do fatal damage
They were so gripped with fear
They could not see
That Jesus’ word to travel
Was their surety
With Jesus sleeping
Their safety was certain
Nothing would harm them
Or endanger their mission
Instead of taking
Their wisdom from Jesus
The disciples panicked
And woke Him from sleeping
Shouting their fear
Like He was not listening
They put their trust in
The storm as their ending
So often it seems
When life throws us a storm
All we see is the danger
It all seems so threatening
We forget Jesus
Living peacefully within us
And His word to us
Which our future guarantees us
Jesus woke up
And spoke to the storm
Commanded it be still
And it obeyed His word
The storm was abated
Gone in a moment
And Jesus’ authority
Became self-evident
Then Jesus questioned
His disciples thinking
For they had seen Him
Many miracles making
If He could heal and deliver
Make one lunch feed thousands
Why had they more faith
In the storm’s manifestations?
This is the question
That life’s storms ask us
In whom do you trust
For all your answers
Do you really trust
In Jesus, God’s Son?
Or do your problems
Seem the bigger one?
The disciples were awestruck
At Jesus’ power
And authority
That made the Storm cower
They had yet to see
Jesus was God incarnate
Our Divine Creator
There in person to save them
When we look at Jesus
We should be awestruck
At His great power
To provide solutions
No one who sought Him
For help with a need
Left empty handed
Or at all disappointed
Now this same Jesus
Is living in us
We can see through His eyes
And in God trust
When storms rage around us
But we find Him sleeping
We can rest in Him
For His word is our keeping
For just as God
Was in Jesus living
In His Beloved Son
All His Glory revealing
So Jesus in us
Fills us with God’s fullness
To live victoriously
Through His loving kindness
